Mannesmann Demag™ manufactures a Microspeed 2 Speed drive unit model KOS and KBOS. Midwest Brake worked with Mannesmann Demag to develop an oil shear/brake for the Microspeed drive units.

The oil shear clutch/brake operates in a bath of hydraulic transmission fluid which lubricates the discs and dissipates heat. The shearing of oil between the clutch discs transmits the torque and dissipates heat. The friction disc wear is minimal.

The oil shear clutch/brake can provide years of services with little wear, no adjustment and very little maintenance. As a totally enclosed, oil immersed package the unit is impervious to outside contaminants. Airborne coolants and metal chips from machining operation cannot affect the operation or life of the clutch/brake.
